Small Minority Business Resources
The City of Austin's SMBR Certified Vendor List
You could be on this list!
Certification is free to companies that qualify and are owned, managed, and controlled by a minority and/or a woman in addition to meeting other criteria.
The City of Austin’s Small & Minority Business Resources Department (SMBR) hosts “Certification 101” training on a regular basis at their office at 4201 Ed Bluestein Blvd, Austin TX 78721 (northeast corner of 183/Ed Bluestein and Technicenter Blvd. just south of MLK).
The purpose of Certification 101 is to give business owners an overview of the types of certifications offered to small businesses and small businesses owned by minorities and by women.
Staff are on hand to talk about Minority-Owned Business Enterprise (MBE) and Women-Owned Business Enterprise Certification (WBE) certifications. Both of these are used for city-funded contracts in Construction, Professional Services, Nonprofessional Services and Commodities.
Certification does not guarantee your company a contract, but it's important to keep in mind that all of these certifications can be used by your company as a marketing tool. As a certified business owner, you will be approached by other businesses to ask for bids whenever the product or service that you sell and are certified under shows up on a City of Austin solicitation.
The workshop and certifications are free of charge along. If you would like more information or to RSVP your attendance, please call Blender Hill at (512) 974-7677 or visit the SMBR website.
