If selling to the government is part of your growth strategy, you will quickly find that figuring out who's buying what you have to sell can be overwhelming. Fortunately, there are several organizations that can help you navigate the process.
PTACs - Procurement Technical Assistance Centers- are specialty centers of the SBDC program that provide no-cost consulting and offer low-cost training on local, state & federal contracting. Our UTSA PTAC has a full staff of business advisors who can help you through the process.
HUB Coordinators are another great source of assistance when you're looking for state contracting opportunities. They are designated employees in state agencies throughout Texas who help Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) suppliers, vendors and contractors get connected to prime contractors and bidding opportunities. HUB events are held frequently throughout the state. We encourage all small business owners (HUB or not) to take advantage of these events whenever possible because getting certified as a HUB, woman-owned, minority-owned, or veteran-owned business is not enough. You need to build relationships with the people in the agencies and with the prime contractors.
Funded in part through the State of Texas and a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration. The support given by the U.S. Small Business Administration through such funding does not constitute an expressed or implied endorsement of any of the cosponsors’ or participants’ opinions, findings, conclusions, recommendations, products or services. Reasonable accommodations for persons with disabilities or limited English proficiency will be made if requested at least two weeks in advance.
